Santuri Meets The Nile Project

This weekend Santuri will join forces with the awesome Nile Project to collaborate at The Gathering – The Nile Project’s meeting of musical minds in Aswan, Egypt.

The Nile Project brings together 15 musicians from around the Nile basin, to work together creating and performing new music that shares in the experiences and traditions of the whole region. The project uses this kind of collaboration as a metaphor for political and social collaboration, which around the Nile region is often in short supply.

The project was formed to highlight the ways that music, along with educational programs, can tackle discord and foster understanding around the region. Santuri has been invited to participate in a new element – Nile Remixed – which will see various invited musicians from the Gathering collaborate with Santuri producers on different styles.

Santuri is delighted to welcome back Emile a.k.a Behr  – who’s recent release of 4 instruments sampled at Santuri Sondeka made a huge splash via the Ableton home page this month.  Emile’s East African sound pack opens up a world of sounds to producers globally, and we are sure we’ll be hearing these distinctly East African flavors on numerous tracks in the months to come.

We are also delighted to invite Jan Schulte to join a Santuri Safari for the first time. In the last few years Jan has become very highly regarded on the underground scene, releasing scores of records under a variety of aliases – including Wolf Müller, Bufiman, Montezumas Rache and others. His wildly eclectic and innovative DJ sets have seen him playing all over the world, most recently with a tour in Australia over new year.  Check out a cool interview and mix with Jan here…

This will be the 2nd time Nile Project has held a gathering in Aswan, and will see the creating of new material for the next album as well as an extensive tour later this year. We’ll keep you posted on updates form Aswan, and looking forward to sharing some new music in the not too distant future.
